It started with a comment on the estate agents sales literature which said “We understand that the property was formerly a Coaching Inn, probably one of the first in the town, and the garaging to the rear were the former stables. The original Inn window and entrance door remain, as do the old worn slate steps leading down to the former beer cellar.”
In order to validate this, a quick search of maps in the area made me stumble across old-maps.co.uk and searching the area, I was able to locate the 1888-1889 OS County Series for Merionethshire where Glan Y Gors Hotel was clearly shown (the property has retained the house name as Glan Gors).
So now at least I had a point in time and validation to work forwards and backwards from.
More on this as I discover it!
